Overview

As people age, there are certain physiological and cognitive changes that are almost inevitable. Older adults need incentives to engage and may have vastly different usage patterns of technology compared to their younger counterparts.

The objective

To understand and resolve challenges faced by the elderly, assure independence and instill trust in the payment method.

Research insights

The elderly face issues like language barriers, difficulty in understanding complicated instructions, remembering passwords/ pins/ IDs, lack self-confidence while using technology, find technology risky and need constant guidance while using technology. In terms of interfaces, they wish to see money flow physically, wish to have error-correction facility, feel overwhelmed because of busy interfaces and find small font sizes difficult to read.

Problem statement

How might we help people over the age of 55 years carry out online transactions through a mobile application, which assures them comfort and security to empower them to perform transactional activities independently?

Ideation

We came up with a concept of using a personal voice and text-based assistant inside the app that would help the elderly carry out online transactions smoothly with step-by-step guidance and error-correction facility available at every stage. The personal assistant would have a human face and qualities which would make the elderly more comfortable.
