Overview

New moms often struggle to balance being a “new mom” and an “employee.” They need to know their baby’s location and see them often for peace of mind. To solve this, we designed a smart app and wearable system. The wearable tracks the baby’s health in real-time, while the app features a baby camera with facial and audio recognition, a house map for tracking, and tools to keep the entire family updated. This allows moms to focus on work, knowing their baby is safe and cared for. While some apps for babies exist, they fail to include the baby’s health, camera, live location, text/voice messaging, along with a wearable product all in a single app.

Challenges faced by new moms

The major problems faced bynew moms include reduced working efficiency, being constantly worried about the baby, neglecting their own physical and mental health, lack of sleep and the need to check on the baby very often even while at work.

Problem statement

“How might we help new moms balance both better- their work and taking care of the baby so that it helps them lead a healthier life?”

Ideation

We kicked off the ideation phase by sketching various things new moms need in their daily routine. The goal was to design a product that allows new moms to easily check their baby's basic status while working. We came up with various ways to help new moms track the status of their baby while they are working- either at home or outside. We analyzed issues with the current baby-tracking apps and tried to ideate solutions that our product can address.

The solution

Tiny Trail, an app with a physical product (a camera) for parents / caretakers of babies that:

  • Shows the baby’s live location

  • Sends customized notifications about a baby’s status

  • Allows new moms to voice/text message

  • Allows users to command the camera to click a picture

  • Tracks the baby’s health

User flow inside the app

We created a user flow starting from the login and sign up pages, creating an account, homescreen, menu contents and the details inside each feature. Key features of the app include the baby’s live location on a map, baby’s health, live camera, text and voice chat and the baby’s motion.
